Justice and Peace Events for December and January, in and around the Westminster Diocese.

Please note our Open Evening will be on 18 January here at Commission HQ at St. John Vianney Parish in West Green, Tottenham. Feel free to join us for Mass at 6.30 pm, followed by food and fun!

Tues 29th Nov          “Islington Together against Hate Crime” public meeting, Tues, 29 November. At Finsbury  Park Mosque 7-11 St. Thomas Rd, London, N4 2QH with Jeremy Corbyn MP as a keynote speaker from 6.30 – 8.30pm, the programme starts 7pm which aims; to show a united front between statutory, voluntary and community services to reducing all hate crime and working with all communities and faith to challenge hate crime, to support communities to report hate crime and encourage communities to come forward to feel safe and secure in reporting and know that the reports will be taken seriously and to raise community concerns and share experiences so that we can develop good practice.

 

Wed 30 Nov              QUILT PANEL DISPLAY.  An iconic quilt panel, commemorating the lives of those lost to the AIDS epidemic in the UK, will be on display at the Church of the Immaculate Conception (Farm Street Jesuit Church), 11 Mount Street, Mayfair, London W1K 3AH, from 30 November- 4 December 2016.  The Quilt Trail has been organised by a coalition of HIV/AIDS charities including the George House Trust, the Terrence Higgins Trust, Positive East, The Food Chain, Positively UK, and Sahir House, supported by the Elton John AIDS Foundation.  Further details: Martin Pendergast – lgbtcatholicswestminster@gmail.com

Thurs 1st Dec           The European Response to the Migrant Crisis.  6.30 – 8.  Brother Johannes Maertens from the Calais Catholic Worker House (Ste Marie Skobstova) will lead discussion on the European response to refugee/migrant crisis  at London Catholic Worker, 49 Mattison Road, N4.  All Welcome.

 

World AIDS Day Mass 6pm part of a series of London-wide events, forming an AIDS Quilt Trail across London at the Church of the Immaculate Conception (Farm Street Jesuit Church), 11 Mount Street, Mayfair, London W1K 3AH. The Beacon Music Group will accompany the Mass.

Mon 5th Dec              Chocolate of Peace: Cocoa challenging violence – 6pm.  Evening of film and conversation with producer Gwen Burnyeat, exploring the journey of the Peace Community of San Jose de Apartado in Colombia. The evening will chart the story of their organic chocolate production, their experience of violence and resilience, and their fight to remain neutral in the face of the Colombian armed conflict. Tues 6th Dec             Pax Christi Advent Peace Service is always one of the highlights of their year and takes place at St Aloysius, Euston, London, on Tuesday 6 December from 7pm. All Welcome. The service is followed by an alternative Christmas market which will feature goods from the Philippines, the Jesuit Refugee Service, Traidcraft, Zaytoun (Palestinian olive oil, soap etc), the London Catholic Worker and olive wood goods from Pax Christi partners in Bethlehem.  Mulled wine and mince pies too! All welcome to join the choir.  Rehearsal on Sunday 4 December at 2.30 at St Aloysius Church.   

 

Science, Justice, Faith and Care for the Earth: An interdisciplinary discussion on Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter, Laudato Si’  A panel of eminent speakers will gather exploring the science, faith, and intersectionality of climate change. Sat 14th Jan               New Approaches to Foreign Policy: SOAS CND meeting. SOAS CND, in association with London Region CND, invites you to this conference to discuss the recent vote at the UN to start negotiations on a global nuclear ban.
